By the end of this module, students should gain an understanding of hospital organizational structures, and billing systems, and will become familiar with Uniform Billing (UB-04), and its application to hospital billing. Students will further develop proficiency in Hospital-based reimbursement systems such as Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG), Resource-Based Relative Value Scale (RBRVS), and Ambulatory Payment Systems (APC) will be discussed, as well as logic-based computerized billing software. Preparing students for real-life experience of health care from an In-patient data delivery systems, students will engage in on-line learning, as well as lab and computer software applications. Students will become familiar with various coding manuals and will be able to use industry related reference materials such as the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-CM), (ICD-10-PCS) and Health Care Procedures Coding Systems (HCPCS). Students will further develop proficiency in regular/day-to-day hospital procedures.
