Computed Tomography (CT)

Candidates must complete at least 125 documented procedure repetitions.

  • Select 25 procedures from the ARRT CT procedure list
  • Perform 3–5 repetitions of each procedure
  • Procedures completed fewer than three times cannot be counted

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Candidates must complete at least 125 documented procedure repetitions.

  • Choose procedures across six ARRT MRI categories
  • Perform 3–6 repetitions per procedure
  • Only one procedure per day may be documented

Interventional Radiography

Candidates must complete 200 documented procedures.

  • Each procedure must be performed at least 5 times
  • No more than 10 repetitions per procedure may be counted
  • Minimum requirements include 50 vascular diagnostic, 50 vascular interventional, and 50 nonvascular procedures

Mammography

Candidates must complete mammographic imaging for 75 patients.

  • Procedures must be performed on actual patients
  • Documentation must follow Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) requirements

FAQs

Who is the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences program for?

The Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences is a degree program designed for ARRT-certified imaging professionals — or individuals who have earned an associate degree through an MRI program — who want to continue their education through advanced radiologic science, healthcare leadership, and modality-specific coursework.

Is the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences program online?

Yes. ACC’s BSRS program is delivered 100% online, allowing students to complete coursework remotely.

How long is the BSRS program?

Students can earn their bachelor’s degree in radiologic sciences online in as little as 60 weeks, which is less than 15 months. The program is divided into six terms that are 10 weeks each.

What is the BSRS class format?

The BSRS coursework is asynchronous, which means students are not required to attend live classes at specific times. Instead, coursework — including lectures, readings, and assignments — can be completed on your own schedule.

However, the program is not self-paced. Students follow a structured course schedule with set deadlines, instructor guidance, and regular academic expectations. This format is designed to offer flexibility for working professionals while maintaining academic structure and accountability.

What will I learn in the Radiologic Sciences program?

Students complete coursework in imaging applications, cross-sectional anatomy, imaging pathology, healthcare leadership, ethics, research methods, and regulatory compliance, along with modality-specific topics.

What post-primary modalities are covered in the program?

The BSRS program includes modality-specific coursework related to computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, and interventional radiography (IR). Students are required to log a set number of exams in their chosen modality in order to be considered for ARRT post-primary exam eligibility.

What classes are required?

Courses include general education courses for healthcare leadership, finance, and compliance to name a few. Radiography specific courses for CT, MRI, IR, and Mammography.

What can I do with a Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography?

Graduates can pursue various career paths, including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), interventional radiography (IR), and mammography (M). A bachelor’s degree can also support professional growth within radiology departments, including opportunities to take on leadership or supervisory responsibilities.

If I am ARRT-certified in MRI, can I sit for the ARRT Radiography (R) exam after completing this program?

The answer is no because there are ARRT required competencies to be completed for the Diagnostic Radiography (R) and the BSRS program is not a primary pathway to obtain certification in Radiography.

The BSRS completion program is designed to advance your education, not replace the foundational clinical and didactic requirements of an accredited Radiography program.

To be eligible for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Radiography (R) exam, students must complete an ARRT approved accredited Radiography program that includes required clinical competencies specific to radiography.

If your background is in MRI only, additional coursework and clinical training in radiography would be required to qualify for the (R) exam.

Do my current licenses or certifications count toward the program?

Students are required to have ARRT certification to enroll in the program.

What does the ARRT require to get licensure in CT, MRI, IR, or Mammography?

The ARRT requires the following:

  • CT: 16 hours of formal education; clinical experience to include logging a required number of procedures.
  • MRI: 16 hours of formal education; clinical experience to include logging a required number of procedures.
  • IR (Cardiac, Vascular): 16 hours of formal education; clinical experience to include logging a required number of procedures.
  • Mammography: 16 hours of formal education; clinical experience to include logging a required number of procedures.
How much does the BSRS program cost?

Our admissions advisors and financial aid advisors are here to support you. They can help you figure out the cost of radiology school and help you explore financial aid options.

To learn more about ACC’s Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences program cost, access our tuition info.

I’m not currently working in imaging. Will the school help me find a clinical site?

The school may provide guidance or support, but students are expected to participate in securing a site, especially if they are not currently employed in imaging.

We always recommend speaking with the Program Director to review your individual situation and clinical needs.

I already have an associate degree in MRI. Do I need to complete additional clinical terms for MRI?

There are no clinical terms and if they are already a licensed MRI technologist then they wouldn't need to do competencies.

Is financial aid available for radiologic tech school?

Yes, financial aid and scholarships are available for those who qualify. An ACC Financial Aid Advisor can assist you in identifying options to help fund your education.
