LVNs work under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians to provide basic patient care and support in a variety of healthcare settings. As an essential part of the healthcare team, LVNs are responsible for monitoring patients’ vital signs, providing wound care, maintaining health records, and more.

Note: The terms Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) refer to the same type of entry-level nurse and are sometimes used interchangeably. In most of the United States, the title is LPN, while in California and Texas, they are called LVNs.
