Online library resources have huge classroom benefits, just ask Kellie Lulas. The Medical Billing and Coding program director at ACC-Long Beach used SMART Imagebase through ACC’s blackboard and library website to enhance her classroom efforts.
The MBC class assignment was to write and create a diorama about a neuron, including researching what it is and obtaining an image of the neuron using the SMART Imagebase.
"I use SMART Imagebase all the time when I teach anatomy,” Lulas shared. “Visually, it helps the students have a better understanding of the procedures, and general anatomy, which in turn helps them become stronger billers.”
Medical Billing and Coding student Sansaray Robinson-Clark agreed, saying, “I like the database because it has clear pictures and video that explains the procedures, which helps us code the procedure if we understand it.”
ACC pays for subscriptions so that students, faculty, and staff have free access to database subscriptions including SMART Imagebase while they’re part of the ACC community. E-books are available to download on devices as well.
Vanessa Bautista, an MBC student at ACC-LB added, “I used the DynaMed link for my research about neurons and it was easy to navigate, and the information was clear. I felt the source to be credible.”
In May, the Library is conducting a stitch-in event for the surgical technology program at ACC-Los Angeles to highlight these resources.
