Students and graduates from American Career College’s core programs — including medical assistant, dental assisting, optical technician and pharmacy technician — were treated to their own career fair in Los Angeles this March.
“It's all the core programs today,” ACC-Los Angeles Career Services director Gohar Abrahamian said. “The core program graduates are in demand and the Job Fair is a perfect opportunity for them to connect with employers.”
About 30 employers attended the fair, with more than 150 students making their way around the various tables, meeting recruiters and handing out resumés. Abrahamian said in the weeks leading up to the event, she and the Career Services staff spent time helping students prepare for the event with workshops on professional development, resume writing, customer service, patient care, mock interviews and more.
While it's important to dress nicely and have a well-craftedresumé, Abrahamian said most recruiters are willing to overlook some things in order to find someone with a good personality and a positive, can-do attitude.
"If you have a smile on your face, if you have a good attitude when you shake hands, you are the person that they're looking for," Abrahamian said.
Besides offering recent graduates and soon-to-be graduates with their first jobs in healthcare, Abrahamian said the Career Services department also helps former graduates find their second or third job, or whatever is next for their career. Career Services will also hold customized job fairs for individual employers looking for that one special candidate.
