Program Director, Ontario Physical Therapist Assistant Program
Mr. Simmons graduated from Chapman University in 1998 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Physiology and Athletic Training. He continued at Chapman and graduated in 2000 with his Master’s in Physical Therapy.
Mr. Simmons spent much of the first half of his career treating neurological dysfunctions such as stroke, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis and vertigo disorders. Mr. Simmons made his move from hospital-based care to outpatient physical therapy in 2009 and has since seen a variety of diagnoses ranging from common sports injuries to complex pain syndromes and temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD). He received his Certification in Functional Manual Therapy (CFMT) with honors from the Institute of Physical Art in 2016. Mr. Simmons’ primary focus outside of work is his family. You may find them in the desert, in the mountains or in the ocean on any given day—enjoying all of what California has to offer.
From 2005 to 2011, Mr. Simmons was a nationwide educator on the topic of evidence-based rehabilitation of individuals with stroke. From 2013 to 2014, Mr. Simmons taught the human anatomy lab at Chapman University for Bachelor’s-level students, and in 2014 was an adjunct instructor for the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program teaching Advanced Practice Management. Mr. Simmons is currently a continuing education instructor on the topic of manual therapy to address pelvic girdle dysfunction for the Institute of Physical Art.
Mr. Simmons is extremely passionate about the field of physical therapy and is excited to share his knowledge and experience with students in the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program at American Career College. In conjunction with the Orange County campus, ACC’s goal is to make our program the model for all PTA programs in the country.
