More than 450 students and graduates from American Career College-Ontario got a chance to jumpstart their job search at the Fall Career Fair this November.
Ask A Healthcare Recruiter
• Have An Easy-to-Read Resume: Recruiters may only spend 10 seconds looking at your resume. Make sure they can find what they need.
• Be On Time: Turn in everything your recruiter needs before the deadline. Show up to your job interview at least 15 minutes early.
• Show You Want The Job: Sometimes the only difference between two qualified candidates is attitude. Be positive and enthusiastic at your interview. Even if you don’t get the offer, leave them with a good impression if something changes.
ACC-Ontario Career Services director Juan Carlos Jimenez said nearly 50 healthcare recruiters attended the career fair, adding that more than 20 students lined up job interviews afterward.
Jill Eastman, a human resources technician with the County of Riverside, said speaking with recruiters face-to-face at career fairs is better than just applying for work online.
"There's an advantage — meeting us personally and knowing what positions that we're currently looking for, how to apply and who to talk to," Eastman said. "We can help with that information."
Pacific Dental Services recruiter Krista Wink recommended that job seekers format their resume so that important information stands out at the top.
"Always have a really easy resume to read," Wink said. "As a recruiter, I usually give maybe 5 to 10 seconds looking at a resume so make sure you really have everything out there — your education, any kind of certificates that you get in school whether it be honor roll or good attendance, put it all in there. That's all important."
Christopher Ford, a recent ACC medical assistant graduate and newly hired employee of Care Staffing Professionals, said that it's very important to keep your resume up-to-date with all the latest information and certifications earned.
"Different facilities need certain things, so if you can list everything you have experience in, that would be perfect. That puts you in a different position than other people," he said.
