More than 20 American Career College-Ontario students got one step closer to the next level after getting to use some of the latest in digital dentistry equipment this July.
ACC-Ontario dental assisting program director Lydia Saenz took two of her cohorts on a field trip to the Pacific Dental Services (PDS) training center on July 16 for a demonstration of the state-of-the-art CEREC system, the same technology many of her students might use after graduation.
Three PDS employees walked the students through the steps on how to use the software and hardware that can create same-day dental restorations for tooth crowns, inlays and onlays using computer-assisting design and manufacturing programming. After the presentation, students were allowed to try the grinding and milling unit themselves and actually create a crown.
"(PDS) have ultramodern technology in all of their offices and are very big on giving back to the community,” ACC-Ontario dental assisting externship coordinator Erika Hernandez said. “It was a great field trip and the students had a great time.”
