Just a few months into her medical assistant program, part-time bartender and full-time mom Silvia Castro is excited about her future career in healthcare and a proud student ambassador at American Career College-Ontario.
“I love helping people and being there for them, and have always been that person,” Silvia shared. “As an ambassador, we have to have good grades and help guide other students and share what we’ve learned.”
Prior to enrolling at ACC, Silvia was working two to three jobs including modeling, Instacart and bartending, but was motivated to do more for her daughter who needs special medical care.
“My daughter has four conditions and we have been in and out of hospitals, seeing doctors and cardiologists and I wanted to learn more so I can help her and other people like her,” she said.
Silvia, now 35, was initially nervous about coming back to school after years of working, but was happy to find a school close to her home and work.
“I am very proud to say I go to American Career College, because the moment to you take step through the door, everyone makes you feel you’re at home, which is so important,” she said.
After graduation, Silvia aspires to work in a hospital, clinic or cardiology office so she can help others.
“Being in school has made me grow, made me more positive and given me self-confidence because I am learning things, I never thought I’d be able to,” she said. “Every day I learn different things and knowing I will be able to help others is a great feeling.”
