Alexis Corrales is a few short months away from graduating with her associate of occupational science degree in respiratory therapy at American Career College-Ontario and is looking forward to her next step.

“With the pandemic, I wanted to give back and respiratory therapy is a great program here that just came naturally to me,” Alexis shared. “I have fallen in love with this program and have learned so much in a little amount of time.”

In addition to her classes, Alexis serves as a Student Ambassador for her program, assisting other students with their needs.

“I am definitely shy and quiet at times but I learned to take on leadership roles,” Alexis shared.

After playing lacrosse through high school, where she also did ASB leadership, Alexis went to a local state college to play lacrosse and start her nursing pre-requisites before she ultimately came to ACC.

“I was talking with a friend and the environment here is just so natural, I immediately wanted to come here train to be an RT,” Alexis shared.

After graduating, Alexis plans to move to Orange County and work in her new field.

“I am excited for the next couple of months. It’s flown by and I can’t wait to get started with my career,” she said.

Q: What sparked Alexis C.’s interest in respiratory therapy?

A: Alexis C. was inspired to enroll in the Respiratory Therapy program at ACC-Ontario because of the COVID-19 pandemic. She wanted to give back to her community and found it came natural to her. The program and the friendly environment at ACC-Ontario were a big plus for her. She’s grown to love the field, and this made it easier for her to learn a lot of information in a short period of time.

Q: How does ACC-Ontario’s RT program prepare students for leadership roles?

A: ACC-Ontario’s Respiratory Therapy program allows students to develop leadership skills. Alexis was shy and quiet at first but became a Student Ambassador and helped other students with their needs. With her previous experience in high school ASB and college lacrosse, Alexis has grown as a leader while working on her associate of occupational science degree in respiratory therapy.

Q: What are the job opportunities for ACC-Ontario RT grads?

A: ACC-Ontario’s Respiratory Therapy program helps prepare graduates with the skills and knowledge they need to join the the workforce right away. Alexis will be graduating in a few months and is moving to Orange County to start her career as a respiratory therapist. The program’s training and hands-on experience has helped Alexis be more confident in gives in this fulfilling healthcare field.
