More than 100 students and staff from all three American Career College campuses laced up their sneakers to get healthy and raise money for a virtual Heart Walk this April.
"Led by the ACC Student Services teams, our student ambassadors and associates had so much fun during our annual Heart Walk and Health Wellness activities all week," ACC Student Services manager Chandra Deveroux said. "There was something fun and healthy to do every day and we had a great turnout even though we couldn't have a large event like previous years."
This year, 128 heart walkers from ACC helped raise more than $6,000 for the American Heart Association, to aid its effort to improve the heart health of all Americans, while reducing heart disease and stroke through research, stronger public health policies.
With a goal of 150 minutes of activity per week, each campus stepped up the challenge in their own way. In Los Angeles, staff and students took to the hills and canyons around campus in North Hollywood; Orange County staff did a mix of walking at home or in groups; while in Ontario, participants took laps around the building and tested their mettle with an obstacle course and hopscotch.
"As health care professionals, we lead by example in our community," Deveroux said. "So get up and move and make sure you join us for next year's event where we can hopefully all walk together again."
