ACC Graduate Spotlight: Christopher Ford

November 19, 2019

Christopher Ford never attended a career fair to look for a job. The October 2019 medical assistant graduate from American Career College-Ontario was hired out of externship and hasn't looked back.

Despite finding work before he completed his schooling, Ford recommended that students utilize Career Services events to learn about what qualifications and certificates health care facilities need and want from new employees.

"Medical assistants are important and job recruiters are actively looking for us," Ford said. "I think sometimes medical assistants are undervalued but we're very important because we're running the front of the office and back office. We're very important. The doctors look to us for a lot of things."

What inspired you to work in health care?

I lost my dad when I was 7 so basically all my life I've been losing people that I love. I never really realized it but I always wanted to take care of people, because when you lose someone it's tough so I've always wanted to take care of people and I really realized that when I was so concerned about my mom's health as well that this is something I want to do. I also want to be very educated in my own body and know if something that's off or to know if something's wrong with family members of mine or anybody and help somebody in need.

Are you working now and what do you do?

I work at Care Staffing Professionals. I work with staffing facilities. I work with LVNs, CNAs, respiratory techs, pretty much all around in the healthcare field and we staff different facilities that are understaffed.

As a recruiter, what do you tell prospective employees?

You should work for Care Staffing because we work with a ton of facilities, all for your preference. I don't think a lot of other companies give you that choice. We have a flexible schedule, whatever facility you want to get into we will try our best to get you into. We have contracts with San Bernardino and we have contracts with LA, Orange County so there's a number of places you can go.
