VN Grad Navigated Through Setbacks to Success at ACC

February 26, 2024

Andrew P.’s path to graduate from the American Career College Vocational Nursing program wasn't straightforward. Faced with setbacks in previous endeavors, he found himself at a crossroads, recognizing the need to make a life-altering decision for the well-being of his family.

"I went out on faith and decided to give vocational nursing a try," he recalled.

Prior to joining ACC, Andrew's professional journey included a stint as a logistics specialist in the U.S. Navy, transitioning to a career in fitness upon returning to civilian life.

"I've always had a passion for helping people," he explained. "Before I started nursing, I was a fitness trainer, helping people reach fitness goals and live healthier lifestyles. So, this isn't too far away from what I was doing right before."

His search for the right educational fit led him to explore various schools. However, it was American Career College that resonated with him.

"ACC just kind of fell in line, and everything just felt right when I went there," he said, describing the moment he found the Vocational Nursing program online.

His advisor played a crucial role in instilling confidence and dispelling doubts about age and timing.

"She assured me it's not too late, and she really encouraged me,” Andrew explained. “All my classmates were really great; I found a great group of friends that helped me continue through, kept me motivated, and I just grew to love the field that I'm in."

Looking ahead, Andrew envisions making a significant impact in healthcare. As he embarks on his nursing journey, Andrew leaves behind a trail of motivation and inspiration for future nursing students at ACC.

"I plan to make a change in healthcare by making sure that no matter what when I walk out those doors, I know that I gave the best possible care," he declares.

He aspires to set an example for others, showcasing a genuine passion for patient care.

"My biggest thing was for my kids to see me do something and finish it,” he said, “so they know they can do things as well, too, even after adversity, no matter what the situation."
