Students from American Career College got a chance to make their voices heard at the nation’s capital this March, where they advocated for critical issues affecting themselves and their peers.
Led by government affairs senior vice president Scott Casanover and government affairs executive director Andrea Harvey, the respiratory therapy students met with members of Congress to highlight the importance of their education.
During their visit, students emphasized how institutions like ACC are not just educational providers, but also catalysts for fulfilling dreams and aspirations. They advocated for equal access to financial aid and support programs, noting the importance of ensuring that all aspiring healthcare professionals have the resources they need to succeed.
The group was also able to meet with Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, chair of the House Committee on Education and Workforce, who listened as the students shared their personal journeys in respiratory therapy.
“As an African American male, I recognize the importance of cultural competence in healthcare delivery,” ACC-Orange County student Nicholas C. said. “By addressing systemic barriers and championing policies that prioritize inclusivity, I hope to contribute to a healthcare system that serves all individuals, regardless of background or circumstance.”
Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne took time to welcome the group by recognizing them on the House Floor.
“American Career College is committed to preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals to meet our country's rising demand for care," she shared.
