Vocational nursing students from American Career College’s Ontario campus brought their energy, knowledge, and compassion to the annual Healthy Kids Day event hosted by the Corona YMCA this April.
“It was truly a pleasure supervising VN Cohort 25 at the Healthy Kids Day event in Corona,” ACC-Ontario VN clinical operations manager Andrea Cantu said. “The students demonstrated remarkable professionalism and enthusiasm throughout the day. They engaged with families, educated children on healthy habits, and represented their program with pride and compassion.”
VN students at the event gained valuable hands-on experience while supporting community health efforts. Activities included lice checks, scoliosis screenings, vision and motor tests, and running fun, kid-friendly giveaways like fidget spinners, Play-Doh, and coloring books.
“What stood out most was the overwhelmingly positive response from the community,” Cantu continued. “Parents and children alike appreciated the students’ enthusiasm, professionalism, and knowledge. Many shared how meaningful it was to see future nurses actively engaging in a family-centered event.”
The event welcomed hundreds of children, with students supporting every aspect — from set-up and material distribution to clean-up — all under the guidance of ACC faculty and clinical instructors.
“ACC remains deeply grateful for the continued opportunities to participate in and contribute to our community, while providing students with valuable hands-on experience,” Cantu added.
