A group of student ambassadors from American Career College-Ontario volunteered at Feeding America in Riverside/San Bernardino this July to help package food for families in need
Led by ACC-Ontario student services specialist Angel O., the group’s day began with an educational tour of the warehouse, where the volunteers learned about the various donated items and the logistics behind the organization’s food distribution efforts.
The warehouse tour provided the ambassadors with a deeper understanding of how Feeding America operates and the crucial role it plays in supporting the community. Following the tour, the group moved to the back of the warehouse to start their primary task: sorting and packaging canned foods.
“This volunteering experience not only provided much-needed support to local families but also fostered a sense of community and teamwork among the student ambassadors,” Angel O. said. “Their efforts exemplified the power of collective action in addressing food insecurity and supporting those in need.”
Throughout the day, the student ambassadors worked diligently, completing five full pallets of boxed food, all ready for delivery. The best part, Angel O. added, was that the ambassadors had a great time, and many said they wanted to come back and volunteer again in the future.
"I love volunteering because I love helping others in any way that I can,” said ACC-Ontario surgical technology ambassador Katherine S. “It makes me feel like I'm doing good for others and the community. Life is tough, so being able to bring some light to someone's life feels like I've accomplished something."
ACC student ambassadors are elected by their cohort to represent the various programs at community events and for on-campus activities. At graduation, ambassadors are recognized by the purple cord they wear with their robes and regalia.
