Friends and family gathered at American Career College-Ontario this September to watch 27 graduates receive their pins to signify the end of their academic journey in the respiratory therapy program.
“It went fast,” ACC-Ontario RT graduate Rebecca Donlon said, “but it felt like we were waiting forever. We worked very hard with long nights and a lot of studying to get to this point.”
Guests were also treated to a special performance from graduate Alvin Aranilla. Back during his first week at ACC, Aranilla mentioned to his classmates he liked to sing. His classmates then asked for a song and he serenaded them with his rendition of "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
At the pinning, Aranilla thrilled the cohort and audience by not only singing "Shallow" but belting out "True Colors" by Cindy Lauper as well.
While it was an exciting time, it was also tough to say goodbye to each other. Cohort 19 had grown close throughout their two-year program, ACC RT graduate Randy Chan said.
“They’re awesome,” Chan added. “After two years together, everyone just became so close.”
Q: Why is the pinning ceremony so meaningful for RT graduates?
A: The pinning ceremony marks the completion of the Respiratory Therapy program at ACC-Ontario. For the 27 graduates of Cohort 19, receiving their pins symbolized the end of a two-year journey and their readiness to enter the workforce. Friends and family gathered to celebrate this milestone, recognizing the graduates' hard work, dedication, and transition into the Respiratory Therapy profession.
Q: How long is the ACC-Ontario RT program?
A: The Respiratory Therapy program at ACC-Ontario can be completed in 20 months. Graduate Rebecca D. shared that while "time flew," the program was intense with "long nights and lots of studying." This rigorous training prepares students for the demands of the profession, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they’ll need for successful careers.
Q: How do ACC-Ontario RT students connect during their studies?
A: Throughout the 20-month program, ACC-Ontario RT students form strong bonds. Cohort 19, in particular, developed a close-knit community through shared experiences and mutual support. This camaraderie was on full display during the pinning ceremony, where graduate Alvin A. performed musically – a tradition that began in their first week and continued through graduation.
