The inaugural ACC-Los Angeles Olympic Games have come to a close, and what a great event it was! With 10 “countries” participating and each country fielding a team of four members from different departments, the games displayed substantial inter-departmental communication and cooperation.
Team USA emerged victorious, taking home the coveted overall gold medal. France earned the silver, with Great Britain rounding out the podium with a well-deserved bronze. Overall MVP medals were also awarded to standouts who shone brightly across multiple events, embodying the spirit of excellence and teamwork that defined the games.
“Throughout the two weeks that we hosted the event, we experienced (taking from the Wide World of Sports infamous quote) ‘the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat,’” ACC-LA Executive Director Lani Townsend said. “I’m thrilled with the collaboration that occurred between the teams. The beauty of a team is when you know everyone on the team, and this just really reinforced that.”
Among the highlights of the games were some truly memorable events. The office chair bobsled race, where participants navigated tight corners and swift turns on rolling office chairs, was a crowd favorite. In head-to-head basketball, players demonstrated both agility and strategy in a high-stakes showdown. The games also featured some lighter, yet equally challenging events. Hula hooping provided both entertainment and a test of coordination, while cup stacking demanded a combination of speed and dexterity. Each event was designed to push participants out of their comfort zones and encourage them to work together in innovative ways.
Reflecting on the competition, it’s clear that the ACC-LA Olympic Games were more than just a series of athletic and skill-based challenges. They were a celebration of what can be achieved when diverse teams come together with a shared purpose.
Congratulations to all the participants and teams for their outstanding performances, and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event possible.
