Students are usually the ones hitting the books, but on Teacher Appreciation Day this May, the instructors at American Career College-Long Beach got a very special reading assignment.
Led by the program ambassadors, students at ACC-Long Beach made scrapbooks to recognize Teacher Appreciation Week 2017 and share the impact instructors have had on their lives.
“They started in April collecting quotes and photos to make a book that will make our teachers smile for a lifetime,” ACC-LB Student Recourse Center manager Chandra Deveroux said.
The idea for the scrapbooks came from ACC-Long Beach’s director of education, Donna Patterson. Patterson had received a book from her students years ago, Deveroux said, and wanted the campus to share in the moving experience. Deveroux and the student ambassadors met in secret to plan and create the journals.
Deveroux said the teachers were quite surprised when the students unexpectedly delivered the books and were touched by the gesture.
“One instructor came to me with tears in her eyes and said, ‘This means so much to me, I will share this with my child. My students wrote the most thoughtful messages,’” Deveroux said.
