Longtime St. Francis Medical Center executive Harding G. Young, MD, will be the keynote speaker this Saturday at American Career College’s 2015 winter graduation ceremony at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.
Approximately 900 graduates of American Career College’s wide array of healthcare programs in addition to about 9,000 family and friends of the graduates will be in attendance to hear Dr. Young’s talk.
"Hearing Dr. Young speak about his breadth of experience in medicine and healthcare is a fantastic opportunity for our graduates who are forging a career in this exciting field,” American Career College President Tom McNamara said. “This will be a great honor for all of us.”
Dr. Young is presently the medical director for the Palliative/Supportive Care program and the Skilled Nursing Facility at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, where one of ACC’s five Southern California campuses, American Career College at St. Francis is also located.
Dr. Young is a 25-year veteran of St. Francis Medical Center and also serves on the hospital’s Board of Directors and Board of Trustees.
In past roles, Dr. Young served as a Medical Health Officer for the Los Angeles County Jail Systems from 1987 through 1999 and as Chief of Staff and Department Chair for Family Medicine. He is a former member of the Board of AppleCare Medical Group and member of the ACO Board of AppleCare.
He has experience serving as medical director for a number of hospice agencies and has been the medical consultant and field physician for the varsity football team at Lynwood High School since 1992.
The son of collegiate professors, Dr. Young attended Morehouse College and graduated in 1981 and graduated from Morehouse School of Medicine in 1986. Dr. Young completed a residency in Family Medicine at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center in 1990.
Dr. Young will be speaking American Career College graduates earning diplomas or degrees in multiple programs that can lead to careers in the demanding healthcare field including vocational nurses, medical and dental assistants, pharmacy technicians and respiratory therapists.
“American Career College was founded in Los Angeles in 1978 and has evolved into one of the largest healthcare educators in Southern California,” McNamara said.
The graduation ceremony is scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015. Citizens Business Bank Arena is located at 4000 East Ontario Center Parkway in Ontario, California.
