Students and staff at American Career College rolled up their sleeves this June in recognition of World Blood Donor Day.
Collectively, ACC campuses donated more than 130 units of blood, which can benefit about 400 people. At ACC-Los Angeles, nearly 100 people registered to donate, and 74 units were collected. At ACC-Orange County, 78 donors signed up with the blood bank and a total of 64 units were collected.
"We went over our projected goal but, best of all, we did it as a village," ACC-Los Angeles Student Services Coordinator Ruthy Rodriguez said. "Thank you to everybody who donated."
Each year on June 14, countries around the globe celebrate World Blood Donor Day. Established in 2004 by the World Health Organization, World Blood Donor Day serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts.
