More than 20 massage therapy students from American Career College-Long Beach practiced their own version of community outreach at a recent gang conference this May.
“We massaged more than 200 people in two days of chair massage at the Gang Prevention and Intervention Conference,” ACC-Long Beach massage therapy program director Kara Mirarchi said. “The students were very happy and excited to be out in the community doing what they do best and being of service. It was a great couple of days.”
The Gang Prevention and Intervention Conference was founded in 2012 and is a project of Southern California Crossroads, Haven and St. Francis Medical Center Trauma Services. This year’s conference drew 580 attendees from more than 26 countries.
