Lisa Whigham began her healthcare career as a certified nursing assistant but was ready to take the next step and become a vocational nurse. Luckily for Whigham, her sister was too.
"My older sister, she went through the program with me as well," Whigham said. "We were in the same class and I think having her there with me really inspired me to keep going, because we just picked each other up and it inspired me a lot."
Whigham chose healthcare because her father is disabled and she wanted to do more to help others in need. After her VN pinning ceremony at American Career College-Ontario, Whigham described graduating in three words: "exciting," "happy" and "honored."
She recommended that new students get everything in order before attending school because ACC's accelerated program doesn't slow down for life's obstacles.
"Life will happen," Whigham said, "but if you can have everything taken care of for the most part before you start school, it'll make it a lot easier ride."
