ACC Graduate Spotlight: Grace Barbor

August 26, 2019

A lot of students at American Career College struggle to find the right combination of working full time and going back to school.

Grace Barbor was not one of those students.

"I couldn't do it. I like to do multiple projects at one time, but getting through school was a huge project for me," Barbor said. "For me, it was too hard to balance out both. Some people do it and I commend them, but I could not balance it out."

During her time at American Career College-Los Angeles, Barbor said she focused solely on completing the vocational nursing program -- and her determination and sacrifice paid off. After graduation, she was able to make a smooth transition into her responsibilities as a licensed vocational nurse and make up for lost time with her family.

"You have to give up a lot, but in the end, you think about 'Is it worth it or is it not worth it?" Barbor said, "And this right here, it opens so many doors for you -- so it was worth it. And I was sad giving up some stuff but it's OK. I got a lot now so, yeah, it works out."

Since graduating, Barbor says she's found herself looking forward to taking the next step in her career -- even if it means having to work and go to school, she added.

"I figured I'd get experience as a CNA, know what that's about and then decide if I want to go to the next level -- which I did. Now I'm an LVN and now I want to step further and keep going until I just can't go anymore," she said. "My journey was a very long experience. I went through a whole lot but if your determined and you really want to get something done, you can do it. Don't ever say you can't, because I always said I couldn't do it but I got it done."
