Melissa Chacon, NCMA, CHEP

Medical Assistant Program Director at ACC-Ontario

Melissa Chacon is a Mexican American, first-generation college graduate. She earned her diploma in medical assisting in 2005 and her Associate of Applied Science in 2018. With a resolute dedication to advancing patient care, she devoted numerous years to serving low-income clinics across Southern California, acquiring diverse experience in various specialty areas, including pediatrics, cardiology, and dermatology, ultimately specializing in OB/GYN.

Her journey into education began in 2009, inspired by her experience training medical assistant externs on site. After joining American Career College in November 2013, Melissa quickly became a Subject Matter Expert through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Her expertise extends to contributing to the development of multiple versions of the National Certification Exam for Medical Assistants. Elevating her credentials further, she achieved the esteemed Certified Higher Education Professional (CHEP) designation in 2019. Transitioning into the role of Program Director at ACC's Ontario campus in 2020, she showcased adept leadership and organizational skills. In this capacity, Ms. Chacon has played a pivotal role in supporting faculty needs, managing day-to-day business operations, and overseeing the academic progress of thousands of students over the years. Her supportive and collaborative approach to assisting students has ensured that students not only overcome obstacles they might face while in school, but also flourish in growing and achieving their personal, academic, and professional aspirations.

Ms. Chacon’s dedication extends beyond the confines of her administrative roles. She also enjoys engaging with leadership, faculty, and colleagues, providing insight, motivation, and informational support, along with adding to the collaborative and enriching environment on campus. She does not shy away from challenging issues or new ideas. Her involvement in the development and training for the rollout of a blended curriculum in 2020, a subsequent revision in 2022, as well as various other initiatives, showcases her commitment to staying at the forefront of educational trends.

Over the last decade, Melissa's impact at ACC has extended beyond the realm of curriculum development and administration. She has actively supported her peers throughout the organization, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth. Her leadership is evident in the successful execution of various projects that have enhanced multiple aspects of the Medical Assisting program at ACC. Ms. Chacon's strategic vision and dedicated approach has played a pivotal role in shaping the program’s trajectory.
