The Orange County campus of American Career College proudly celebrates the beginning of the new occupational therapy assistant program. The 20 month program gets students ready for one of the fastest growing careers in the healthcare field. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the occupational therapist assistant field is expected to grow by 43 percent by the year 2022! This growth means that there has never been a better time to get into the field.
The brining of the program was marked by a special one day orientation that helped familiarize the students with their peers, program leaders, and the Anaheim campus. Students also received the computers that they will be using throughout the program. The computers come equipped with everything that the students will need over the course of their program and ensure that each and every student has access to the resources that they will need.
Professor Jeni Duelek was on hand for the program launch and said it was wonderful to see the students on campus and "excited to learn about what they're going to be learning and what they're going to be doing in their career." Her feelings were mirrored by students and ACC associates alike.
For many of the students in the program, this marks their second, or sometimes third career. For a few of the students, the OTA program is not their first time at ACC. ACC Vocational Nursing Graduate Marie Wycoco choose to begin the OTA program after years as a Licensed Vocational Nurse because she wanted a more personal connection with those she was helping.
The OTA field provides a rewarding opportunity to help others overcome challenges that they are experiencing in their lives. OTA student Marilynn Reyes was excited about the program because working in the Occupational Therapy field would let her make a difference in her local community.
