June 1, 2018
On June 1, the latest group of American Career College-Ontario vocational nursing graduates eagerly crowded together, waiting for their pinning ceremony to begin.
At the start of the ceremony, the 25 graduates descended the stairs, each stopping to wave to their family and friends in the audience.
Following the graduates' entrance, ACC-Ontario Assistant Dean of Nursing Dameka Montgomery took the stand to welcome everyone and begin the ceremony.
“Welcome to the families, friends, faculty, and associates in attendance,” she said. “And congratulations to our graduating cohort; we are all very proud to see you standing here today.”
Montgomery then welcomed each graduate to the stage to receive their pin, signifying the completion of their program.
Class speaker Royce Ayonga addressed the cohort with his reflection on their journey through the accelerated vocational nursing program.
“As I look back at our time here at ACC, I gotta tell ya, it’s been a 13-month roller coaster,” he said.
Ayonga continued his speech with stories of his fellow graduates, inside jokes and quotes from Forest Gump. He concluded his speech with some helpful advice for his cohort.
“Where are you going to be after today? I’d love to hear your success stories someday,” he said. “I encourage you to become even more, to attract even more, it doesn’t stop today. The best is still yet to come. #GOALS”
