ACC Dental Assisting Students Volunteer at Care Harbor 2017
More than 30 dental assisting students from two American Career College locations helped out at the 2017 Care Harbor in Los Angeles this January.
ACC-Los Angeles instructor Alma Perez has brought her dental assisting students to the large health fair for eight straight years to gain experience and introduce them to working with professional dentists and dental hygienists.
“I love giving back to the community. I love my students to see what the real world is like in dental. I just love dental, period. And anything I can do to help out, I’m here,” Perez said.
Most of students with Perez were nearing completion of their time at ACC. A second group of dental assisting students from ACC-Long Beach were just beginning the nine-month program.
“It’s my first time working with patients and it’s been really awesome. It was nerve-wracking at first, but I think I got it,” ACC-Long Beach dental assisting student Yessica Franco said. “The way the people come and sit, it’s different than their reaction when they leave. When they leave, they look happy, they look better. They know it’s for their good so if it makes us happy and makes them happy, then everybody leaves happy at the end of the day.
ACC cannot guarantee employment.
