ACC-Orange County Shows Its Support at 2016 Lung Force Walk-a-Thon Fundraiser

Respiratory therapy (RT) students from American Career College-Orange County joined hundreds of individuals who came out to support people with lung cancer at the annual Lung Force Walk-a-Thon in Irvine.

Anyone can get it — if you have lungs, you can get lung cancer, and it’s on the rise in women.

More than 33 million Americans suffer from asthma, COPD (which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis), and other lung diseases.

"It was a great turn out from our campus and as we had more 20 students attend as well," ACC-Orange County respiratory therapy program director Eli Cosa said. "Our students were able to connect with the community by experiencing something greater than themselves and to see the importance of serving our community."

Hosted by the American Lung Association, the Lung Force Walk was held at Mason Regional Park on Nov. 5. This year's event raised more than $40,000 to support research, advocacy, education and awareness for those impacted by lung disease.

Festivities at the fundraiser included a Lung Force Action Passport to interactive education areas, fun games and activities, musical performances, Lung Force Hero meet and greet with inspiring stories of hope, and a 5K walk in the park with a Lung Force loop option — a shorter route for those with breathing difficulties.
