ACC-Long Beach Massage Therapy Helps 'Quench the Fire'

October 31, 2016

For the second year in a row, massage therapy students from American Career College-Long Beach participated at the annual "Quench the Fire" fundraiser in Van Nuys.

Eight students assisted more than 100 fundraiser participants from 6:30 a.m. until after noon with complimentary massages at Woodley Park on Oct. 16. ACC-Long Beach Massage Therapy program director Kara Mirarchi, who established the partnership with the University of Southern California's Keck Medical School through her training as a medical massage therapist, was inspired by her students' participation.

"Six-thirty in the morning any day of the week is tough, nevermind on a Sunday and their day off," Mirachi said. "Their participation shows the kind of spirit and dedication that it takes to be successful, not to mention a kind heart to volunteer and serve."

All proceeds from the event benefited the USC Pain Center to create awareness, education, research and treatment of complex regional pain syndrome/reflex sympathetic dystrophy. CRPS/RSD is ranked as the most painful of all chronic diseases and one of the most misunderstood.
