On November 3, 2013, massage therapy students from ACC’s Ontario campus volunteered in the 2013 Fight For Air Walk in Ontario, CA. Students spent their day providing massages to the dedicated walkers & runners of this wonderful cause, which consisted of a three mile walk (5K). This event, in addition to similar events hosted throughout different cities in California is hosted by the American Lung Association of California.
We’d like to give a big thank you to the students who continue to go out and share their time and talents to such worthy causes: Daniel Hough, Krista James, Ashley Menely, Luis Munoz, Alyssa Ramos, Brook Roberts, Amber Rodriguez, Kylie Southward, and Alex Tamanyo.

On October 4-5, 2013, staff and students from ACC Ontario’s Optical Dispensing program attended the International Vision Expo & Conference West in Las Vegas. The International Vision Expo & Conference West is the largest ophthalmic conference in the world! The event incorporates many different elements of the ophthalmic industry, including the technical, medical, and business side of optometry.
Some conference highlights included the following:
· Designs in fashion from both established and up-and-coming brands
· Technology in lenses
· Technology in diagnostic equipment
· Continuing education for various certifications and licenses
ACC Ontario students attended this conference in order to truly grasp how large and influential the ophthalmic industry is, to network, to gather information, and in order to start planning the direction of their careers.

If you loved playing in the mud when you were a kid, then the Defenders Dash Mud Run in Riverside was the place to be on Saturday, September 14, 2013! Students from ACC Ontario’s Massage Therapy program volunteered their efforts and time at the run by providing massages to those who participated in the event.
The Defenders Dash Mud Run is sponsored by the Riverside Sheriffs’ Association and Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and benefits the Arthritis Foundation Inland Empire, Special Olympics Southern California – Inland Empire Region, and Dominic Durden Memorial Scholarship via Riverside Community College District. The course was just over a 5k; about 3.29 miles and was held at the Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center located at 16791 Davis Avenue, Riverside, CA 92518. The obstacles included walls, hill climbs, cargo nets, slides, mud pits, and more!!!

On Monday, May 20, 2013, Massage Therapy students from American Career College’s Ontario campus volunteered their hands and time by giving massages to golf players at the 19th Annual 9-1-1 for Kids Celebrity Classic Tournament. This tournament was hosted by Tim Brown & Kathy Ireland and took place at Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point, CA. Each American Career College participant was presented with a Certificate of Participation by Kathy Ireland.
9-1-1 for Kids is a public safety education training program designed to reduce high numbers of non-emergency calls made to 9-1-1. Read more about the organization here: http://www.911forkids.com/

On Saturday, June 15, 2013, students in the Optical Dispensing program at American Career College’s Ontario campus supported the efforts of the Fontana/Rialto Lions Club by donating eyeglasses and providing free eye health services to community members in need. In total, ACC students were able to donate eyeglasses and provide services to over 500 people! This community event took place at the City of Rialto Community Center in Rialto, CA.
